Raila's Meeting Declared Illegal

The organised National Super Alliance (NASA) demonstrations scheduled to resume on Tuesday have been declared illegal.

The fresh injunction comes after acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i outlawed all political meetings held past the allowed IEBC timelines.

"Let us now operate very strictly according to the law. We all need order in this society and good order.

"They (politicians) enact the laws and they give them to us; some of those who are trying to subvert the institutions are the ones who amended the Election Offences Act…they understand the Penal Code; they understand in keeping IEBC officials from conducting an election is an election offence," Dr Matiang'i warned.

According to a gazette notice by IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, the official campaign period ended on Monday evening ahead of the Thursday repeat presidential election.

The Opposition chiefs have, however, organised anti-IEBC demonstrations as well as a major public rally on Wednesday.

"There will be countrywide demonstrations on Tuesday and Wednesday. Then on Thursday No Elections," NASA leader Raila Odinga stated on Sunday.

The NASA leaders have also planned a series of public rallies in Tala, Kangundo, Kathiani and finally at the Mulu Mutisya Grounds in Machakos County on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, President Uhuru Kenyatta led the Jubilee party in the final campaigns on Monday with a call for voters to turn out and exercise their democratic right.

"Elections and democracy are not perfect, but they are tools for good. I call on every Kenyan, and especially those who will vote for one of my opponents, to exercise their democratic right on Thursday.

"Every Kenyan who votes will send a message far greater than who they would like to see reside in State House," President Kenyatta charged in an article published in the Nation.
