Chiloba Has Been Calling IEBC Officials to Cook Results - NASA Alleges

Opposition leaders on Thursday released a statement accusing Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) CEO Ezra Chiloba of interfering with the repeat presidential poll.

Speaking for the National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition, Suna East Member of Parliament (MP) Junet Mohamed alleged that Mr Chiloba has been in contact with returning officers.

"Information has come to our knowledge to the effect that the CEO of the Commission Mr Ezra Chiloba, in spite of having gone on leave - ostensibly to give room to the special team of the Commission to conduct elections of October 26, 2017 - in his absence... has since the commencement of voting today made calls to a number of County Returning Officers in NASA strongholds.

"He has been asking them to ensure that they open up the constituency or county tallying centres and to make up or manufacture results knowing very well that in most, if not all of them, voting did not take place with voting materials getting stuck at IEBC offices with no returning officers, presiding officers and clerks to collect them," Mr Mohamed declared.

He went on to point out that the Returning Officers in the areas had spoken with the media indicating that they had not been able to conduct the polls in the areas.

NASA has further accused Mr Chiloba of having cheated the public that he was on leave while he is intricately influencing actions at the commission.

"He is now a consultant-in-chief for the Jubilee party at the Commission and is outrightly procuring fraudulent results to be tallied and transmitted as votes cast in NASA strongholds.

"This is not only fraudulent but also criminal and we invite the Director of Criminal Investigations to conduct investigations and probe the CEO plus any election official who may have yielded to his demands," he urged.

Junet was accompanied by Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch, NASA lawyer Daniel Maanzo, Kibra MP Ken Okoth, Makadara MP George Aladwa and other NASA leaders.

They further observed that the voter turn-out for the repeat election, which they boycotted, was low.
