Sonko's Officials Charged With Robbery With Violence

Seven Nairobi County government officials were on Tuesday arraigned in court and charged with robbery with violence.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Head of Communication in Nairobi Governor's Press Service, Joab Mwaura, confirmed the incident indicating that the matter was heard on Tuesday before senior resident magistrate.

According to the charge sheet, Peter Miriam Mugure, John Ndukuyu Muchuki, Maurice Kisoi Mwonga, David Ndome Mwangi and Wabwoba Maruti were accused of robbing a hawker Sh150 and assorted vests valued at 20,000 shillings along 5th Street Eastleigh on 29th October.

The Court also heard that the county officials armed with offensive weapons - pangas, rungus and mental bars threatened to use violence on the hawker immediately after the robbery.

The officials are also accused of robbing 14 pairs of bed sheets valued at 5,600 from Jeremiah Wambugu Njoki.

Mr Mwaura indicated that the government workers, who were charged with five criminal charges among them robbery with violence, were released on a cash bail of Sh100,000 shillings each.

The matter will be heard on 29th November, 2017.

The court also heard that on the same day, Philip Cherubet Kimei, Peter Ndung'u Gitao and Bernard Kogi, equipped with offensive weapons including knives and axes robbed Cyrus Ndumia Maingi Sh600 along Forest Lane in Ngara. 

The three county workers allegedly threatened to use actual violence on Mr Ndumia; they were also released on cash bail of Sh100,000 each.

Their next hearing will be on 30th November.
