Otiende Amollo Explains How NASA's New Movement Will Work

Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo has divulged new details on how the People's Assembly, which is included in the National Super Alliance's resistance movement, will work.

Speaking on the matter, Otiende explained that the Assembly would provide an avenue for Kenyans to discuss issues affecting the country.

"It is an avenue of having honest, serious discussion both at the national and county level...We will probably consider whether to have that discussion at a fixed place like Nairobi or make it rotational," he explained.

As part of the movement, Otiende stated that the People's Assembly will have members drawn from various groups in the country.

"President Kenyatta can only exercise power as donated by the people...If the people recall that power, then you must relinquish that power," Otiende stated.

NASA leader Raila Odinga had announced that a task force would be set up and their recommendations would be ratified by the Assembly before being taken to various county assemblies.

The Rarieda lawmaker spoke on the role of county assemblies in the movement, stating that their approval would confirm the aspirations of the people in the counties as they could not hold a national referendum.

He stated: "To call for the county assemblies to approve is also a way of validating the exercise of the sovereign will of the people at the county level...it means the population in that area are in agreement with the aspirations of that assembly."

Mr Amollo dismissed the notion that the move would divide Kenya even further, noting that the country was already divided and meaningful steps needed to be taken to unite it.

"I think the country is already divided, and you have two choices. You can pretend it is not and move on, as everybody is calling upon us.

"Or you can accept that it is much divided and look at meaningful ways of uniting the country even if not in the immediate present but in the near future. And I believe this is what this would achieve because it would have an open forum for discussing what it is that divides us," the MP noted.
