Citizen's Francis Gachuri Reveals MP Who Rescued Him From NASA Attackers

Citizen TV reporter Francis Gachuri has spoken out on how he was attacked by a group of violent youth at a National Super Alliance (NASA) press briefing on Wednesday.

He revealed that as he scampered to safety, it was Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga who told other NASA lawmakers to respect him and rescued him from the attackers.

He stated: "Unfortunately some MPs were shouting in support of the young men who wanted to eject us from the venue. It is discouraging to see lawmakers supporting hooliganism.

"It is Gladys Wanga who told MPs to accord me respect. Quite a number of MPs were thereafter convinced to let me sit with them in the tent."

Mr Gachuri then revealed how one of NASA leader Raila Odinga's bodyguards, Ogeta, and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka's personal assistant Roy Katisya, helped him hide in Musyoka's office as the leaders delivered their speech.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Communications Director Philip Etale then assisted Gachuri as he left the venue following the incident.

Gachuri noted that it appeared some NASA legislators were behind the attack, due to Citizen TV's endorsement of IEBC's figures for the repeat Presidential election.

"They claimed Citizen TV had a parallel tallying centre, which, according to them, validated the IEBC's results collated from constituencies during the October 26 poll. They also claimed that we were biased against them, which has never been the case," Gachuri stated.

The journalist divulged that his family was shaken by the incident, but noted that he had forgiven his attackers.

He declared: "I have unconditionally forgiven those young people."
