In recent months, a number of elected officials have been at risk of losing their seats over allegations of forging academic documents.

The most recent case is Tana River Governor Dhado Godhana, who was taken to court on the grounds that his academic papers were forged.

The petition filed by a voter alleges that the election of the former Member of Parliament (MP) was based on illegalities and should be declared void.

During the Court submissions, lady Justice Asneth Ongeri denied Godhana's quest to dismiss the case challenging the academic credentials.

Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja and his Mombasa counterpart Ali Hassan Joho have also been put on the spot over fake academic certificates.
