Raila's Instruction to All NASA MPs and Senators

Opposition leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday directed all National Super Alliance (NASA) MPs to cancel their activities and attend sessions at the county assemblies where the motion on the establishment of a People’s Assembly is expected to be discussed.

In a statement, Mr Odinga directed the legislators to support the course by attending the sitting where the motion would be debated.

He called on the Opposition MPs to also provide guidance regarding the motion to all county assembly representatives.

The people’s assembly is one of the ways the opposition is using to seek for a repeat of the presidential election in February 2018.

“By and large, we are confident that our county assemblies are well-briefed on the Motion following our session with the governors and the MCAs will be equal to the task when the Motion is tabled tomorrow.

"Still, it is a new territory and we ask our members of the National Assembly and the Senate who have had more time to ventilate on this matter to show up at the counties on Thursday in solidarity and for guidance," Odinga's statement read in part.

On Wednesday, Siaya County assembly became the first county to adopt the proposal for the creation of a people's assembly.

The proposal was sent to 18 other counties linked to the Opposition with their Governors expected to attend the sittings to show support for the initiative.

Some of the counties where the motion is expected to be debated today include; Mombasa but the County Communications officer told Kenyans.co.ke that the governor would not be in attendance during the session.

Meanwhile, the former Prime Minister is in the United States (US) where he is expected to address his supporters at Cocobana Bar and Grill, 2031A University, Boulevard E, Hyattsville, Maryland, between 6 pm and 8 pm on Friday.

He is also scheduled to hold two meetings in New Jersy on Saturday.
