IEBC to Reshuffle Officials

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is planning to reshuffle some of its officials.

In an exclusive interview with Kenyans.co.ke, the electoral body’s communication officer Andrew Limo stated that the move was meant to improve its efficiency.

“Any staff changes will likely be in the form of restructuring and rationalization for the IEBC to improve its efficiency,” Mr Limo stated.

He, however, disputed reports that the electoral body had considered scrapping off some top positions in a new management structure.

Mr Limo categorically refuted that the IEBC was planning to reduce some of the regional election coordinators and managers from 17 to 10.

Reports by a local daily alleged that the IEBC was contemplating to remove the position of deputy chief electoral officer in charge of operations.

Mr Limo affirmed: “No, there are no such changes happening at the moment, at least not to my knowledge. Maybe we shall reshuffle but not scrap off some positions.”

The ealier report indicated that claims of abolishing the position had been divulged by a commissioner, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The department of deputy chief electoral officer operations was under Betty Nyabuto who left the electoral agency on Monday after her five-year contract expired.

Under the proposed structure, the operations office will fall under the office of the Deputy Chief Electoral Officer in charge of Support Services which is headed by Marjan Hussein.
