Court Changes its Decision on Raila's Sister

A Magistrate Court on Tuesday suspended a warrant of arrest against former Kisumu Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga and Senator Fred Outa it had issued on Monday.

The two were due for arrest after failing to appear in court to answer to charges where they were accused of attacking an IEBC officer in Kisumu in October.

Lifting the warrant, Senior Principal Magistrate Julius K. Ng’arng’ar warned the duo to take their court case seriously.

Mr Outa told the court that he failed to appear for the Monday session because he missed his flight from Nairobi to Kisumu.

On the other hand, Ms Odinga stated that she was in hospital hence could not appear as earlier expected.

Ms Odinga and Senator Outa are facing four charges including; entering an electoral center designated to IEBC without authority, obstructing an electoral officer from conducting his lawful duties, incitement to violence and malicious damage to property.

The Senator, however, has an additional charge where he is accused of inciting youth to violence by ordering them to destroy equipment used during the training.

Last month, the two were arrested and arraigned at Kericho law courts where they pleaded not guilty and were released on a Sh500,000 personal bond each.

The arrest came after the two vowed to thwart any attempts by the electoral commission to oversee the fresh presidential election that had been scheduled for October 26.

They urged locals not to take IEBC jobs or offer any services to the poll agency until there are electoral reforms to enhance a credible poll.

“We are saying no reforms, no elections. Anybody planning to continue with those seminars is not welcome here. There will be no elections on October 26," Ms Odinga announced.
