Details of Al-Shabaab Leader in Kenya Emerge

Ahmed Iman aka Kimanthi, who is believed to be one of the leaders of Al Shabaab militants in Kenya is on the run.

Kimanthi has often appeared in several videos mocking Kenyam troops in Somalia but sources indicate that he has fallen out with commanders of the militia group who want him killed.

It is reported that he wants to surrender to Kenyan forces and get amnesty.

Initially, he was close to the current Al Shabaab supremo Ahmed Diriye and Mahad Karate, also known as Abdirahim Mohamed Warsame, who commanded Shabaab’s Amniyat, its intelligence wing, when gunmen stormed Garissa University College and killed 147 students in April, 2015.

Leaked videos which have since been pulled down showed Iman lauding the killings stating that they were carried out to avenge the killing of radical Muslim clerics Aboud Rogo, Samir Khan and Sheikh Abubakar Shariff alias Makaburi.

A number of Kenyans and other foreigners who joined the terrorists in Somalia have since been captured and executed.

Two weeks ago, a 25-year-old Kenyan was executed by the militant group for alleged spying.

Omar Adar Omar was in a group of four people who were killed by a firing squad in front of residents of Bu'ale Town on November 6.

The other victims of the execution were identified as Abdirisack Hashi Abas, Mustaf Moalom Hassan and Mohamed Aba Mayow.

Reports indicate that the terrorist group accused the four of spying for the Africa Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

According to the Nation, the militants rounded up residents of Bu’ale Town, including women and children to witness the killings.

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is part of the mission that is fighting the terror group in Somalia and has tried to restore order in the war-torn areas.
