Magufuli Confirms Attendance To Uhuru’s Swearing-in

Tanzanian’s President John Pombe Magufuli confirmed that he would be attending President Uhuru Kenyatta’s inauguration set for November 26.

The confirmation made through a letter seen by Kenyans.co.ke, stated that the Tanzanian head of state would be joining other presidents for the swearing-in ceremony.

“The government is informing the public that President Dr John Pombe Magufuli would be joining other heads of state for the swearing-in ceremony,” the letter read in part.

“President Magufuli will be attending the inauguration of His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta as the president of the Republic of Kenya for his second term,” the letter added.

Dr Magufuli’s attendance comes barely a week after his administration was accused of detaining three people suspected to be Kenyan National Intelligence Service (NIS) officers.

His visit to the country comes after barely a month after Tanzania police burnt 6,400 one-day-old chicks from Kenya to death.

Moreover, Tanzania had seized and auctioned 1,300 cattle belonging to Maasais from Kenya while the cattle had been driven across the border for pasture by the pastoralist community.

Diplomatic tensions between Kenya and Tanzania threatened to flare-up after Mr Magufuli stated that his government would continue to confiscate and auction livestock that crosses the border into Tanzania illegally.

“Tanzania is not a feeding farm for animals from other countries and that is why we have stated that we are going to take action as per the law,” president Magufuli stated.
