2 Reasons Why DP Ruto's Oath Was Longer Than President Uhuru's [VIDEO]

During the swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday at the Kasarani Stadium, Deputy President William Ruto's Oath of Execution of Duties was slightly longer than President Uhuru Kenyatta's by 42 words.

The Oaths of Allegiance for both the President and the DP are exactly the same in terms of wording but the difference came in at the second oath for Execution of Duties.

The DP's oath has 121 words as opposed to the one the president took which has only 79 words.

The first reason why this so is because the Deputy President commits himself to giving the president counsel and advice.

Additionally, the oath also commits DP Ruto not to directly or indirectly reveal any secrets that may come into his possession.

The oaths have been extracted from the constitution in conformity with Article 141 of the constitution

They are reproduced in the Third Schedule of the Constitution 2010.

DP Ruto used a Protestant Bible to take his oaths.

"This election was decided on two National formations as opposed to the past. It was not undertaken along tribal lines but it was about the will of Kenyans who are ready to see development in the country," he stated.

Chief Justice David Maraga also appended his signature to the two oaths to legitimize the assumption of office by the Deputy President.
