Details of President Uhuru Kenyatta's Special Appointment of Senator Gideon Moi

President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Baringo Senator Gideon Moi to receive a number of dignitaries at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) ahead of his swearing-in ceremony.

Details indicate that the President specially assigned him the responsibility of receiving Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni and South Sudan's Salva Kiir on his behalf.

In the company of Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed, Senator Moi also received President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed "Farmajo" of Somalia and Ethiopia's Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn.

Senator Moi has previously received regional heads of State raising various questions concerning protocol.

In October 2015, the Senator welcomed Museveni and former Tanzania President Jakaya Kikwete to Kenya, a duty that is characteristically delegated to the Deputy President.

The son of former President Daniel Arap Moi is a childhood friend of Mr Kenyatta and both attended the St Mary's School in the same year.

President Kenyatta still enjoys a cordial relationship with the Moi family, having visited Mzee Moi a few days prior to the swearing-in ceremony.

During his inaugural address, President Kenyatta declared that citizens of African States would be eligible to receive their visas upon arrival in Kenya.

"Today, I am directing that any African wishing to visit Kenya will be eligible to receive a visa at the port of entry," President Kenyatta stated.

He added that the move would reduce negative politics between African states and boost trade and economy.

"For my fellow Africans, the free movement of people on our continent has always been a cornerstone of Pan-African brotherhood and fraternity. The free we are to travel and live with one another, the more integrated and appreciative of our diversity we will become," he declared.
