African Presidents' Message to Kenyans After Uhuru's Inauguration

African Presidents who attended President Uhuru Kenyatta's inauguration sent a message to Kenyans after the Head of State took an oath of office.

Speaking at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, Zambia's President Edgar Lungu asked Kenyans to go back to work after the long political stalemate.

He expressed his concern over the prolonged electioneering period adding that it had made the African continent worried.

"We were very worried as your friends because this process took too long. And we hope you will think about it in future," he stated.

President Ali Bongo Ondimba of Gabon stated: “I am very pleased to be an African today. You people of Kenya have made us proud. And I want to bring you a message of peace, love, and solidarity."

Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni commended Kenya for the well-conducted election and for maintaining peace.

“Now, remember four things: Peace, prosperity, development, and politics. Do not think of politics alone and forget about the three other things,” Museveni conveyed

President of the Republic of Rwanda Paul Kagame congratulated and commended Kenyans for the well-run polls.

Other heads of state congratulated Kenya for withstanding the political tension and pressure throughout the electioneering period.

Heads of state present at the event included: Ian Khama (Botswana), Ismail Omar Guelleh (Djibouti), Salva Kiir (South Sudan) and Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo (Somali)

Others included Hailemmariam Desalegn (Ethiopia) Hage Geingob (Namibia), Barnabas Sibusiso Dlamini (Swaziland) and former presidents Rupiah Banda (Zambia) and Thabo Mbeki (South Africa).
