Kenya's Trending Topics on November 29 2017

Kenyans were on Wednesday engaged in various heated discussions around the trending topics of the day.

A social media campaign under the hashtag #JusticeSergon was kicked off by Opposition supporters after Kenyan blogger Cyprian Nyakundi posted a series of tweets bashing High Court Judge Joseph Sergon.

Here are some of Nyakundi's tweets.

The Judge recently decided in a case by NASA leader Raila Odinga seeking to have a total lifestyle audit conducted against Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru.

Justice Sergon threw out the case stating that it lacked merit. Governor Waiguru had claimed that she was only a whistleblower in the NYS scandal.

The High Court judge also sentenced Defence Principal Secretary (PS) Saitoti Torome to six months in jail following a contempt of court charge.

The court orders outlined that Mr Torome disobeyed a directive on paying Sh17.2 Million to a family who surrendered their estate to the government in 2006.

Justice Sergon was in 2012 declared unsuitable to serve in the judiciary and consequently sacked. He appealed the dismissal with the Vetting of Judges and Magistrates Board.

He was reinstated back to the Judiciary in July 2013.

The South Africa-born American citizen was asked what he would do if it was his last day on earth during an interview with Vodacom.

He answered: "I'd go home, listen to some music, call my kids," adding that he would retreat to his home in Lewa, northern Kenya.
