NASA MCAs Barred From Debating People's Assembly Motion in Nairobi

Nairobi County Speaker Beatrice Elachi angered a section of NASA MCAs after failing to allocate time for the People's Assembly motion stating that it is illegal.

Ms. Elachi, who was seconded by President Uhuru Kenyatta to be the Speaker, claimed that allocating time for the motion to be deliberated upon is a waste of time.

According to a report by the Standard, the Speaker on Wednesday asserted on the illegality of the motion.

NASA members ran into an obstacle following the directive of the Speaker.

Nairobi, being a Jubilee stronghold with numbers in all parliamentary houses: County Assembly, National and Senate assemblies following the August 8 General Election, the motion was expected to fail.

NASA brigade has been pushing for its 19 opposition-led counties to pass the motion.

10 counties have so far passed the motion and one of them includes Jubilee-led Kwale County.

The motion, among other things, does not recognize the legitimacy of Kenyatta's Presidency and seeks to have a constitutional authority put in place to rule as preparations for a fresh election are undertaken.
