All Kenyan Police Officers Ordered to Donate Sh90 Million to Government

The Government has allegedly ordered all 90,000 Kenyan police officers to contribute Sh1,000 each to fund the establishment of an all-girls secondary school.

According to a memo leaked from the service, the donations will construct two classes, a dormitory, kitchen and administration block for the proposed Utumishi Girls which will be next to the boys' school with the same name in Gilgil.

The memo dated December 8 is said to have been discussed during the Form One selection for  Utumishi Boys Academy (UBA) which took place at Vigilance House on Friday.

The memo read in part: "Members in attendance agreed that this was a noble idea which needed to be realised soonest.

"They agreed that every serving officer will contribute Sh1,000. The money shall be contributed through a check-off system at source at the rate of Sh100 per month," it continued.

The existing Utumishi Boys Academy (UBA) was established through a similar funds drive that saw the school open its doors to students in 1992.

Utumishi Hospital has remained a dream after the initiative was proposed and failed to kick off in 2007.

Some members of the force have disagreed with the directive as they fear that it could end up as a preserve of the children of senior service officials.

Other low ranking service members have argued that the government should fully fund the project since it will be categorised as a government school.

"Nobody has consulted us and since it is going to be a Government school, the money should come from the Government," one officer stated.

Meanwhile, Assistant Inspector General Charles Owino has stated that the National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders will be met with the full force of the law should they go ahead to swear in Raila Odinga as President.
