Government Orders Nyeri Governor To Vacate Office

Cabinet Secretary Phylis Kandie issued a Gazette notice instructing Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and 10 other trade union officials to vacate office.

The CS notified members of the public on Wednesday that the 11 trade union officials who currently hold public office were no longer officials at their respective trade unions.

Under article 77 and 260 of the constitution, state officers are barred from holding any other office that will profit them as employees.

"A full-time State officer shall not participate in any other gainful employment and any appointed State officer shall not hold office in a political party," article 77 of the constitution states.

KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion and KUPPET chairman Omboko Milemba were also on the list that ordered the offficials to vacate their various offices with immediate effect.

Also on the list was Stanley Kiptis who is the current Baringo county governor as well as the local teachers' Union boss.

Bungoma Woman Representative Catherine Wambilianga has also relinquished her position as the Kuppet gender secretary.

Others include Ronald Tonui who held a position in KUPPET and is the current Bomet Central MP, Tom Mboya Odege who is the current MP for Nyatike constituency.

Mulei Mwalowa, John Mwamusi, and Florence Bore who is the current Kericho Woman Rep.

Richard Cheserem was the KUPPET branch Executive Secretary abandoned chalk to vie for the ward Representative seat in Saimo Kipsaraman.
