Duale to Draft Motion to Ban Wearing of Tight Clothes in Parliament

Garissa Township Member of Parliament, Aden Duale on Thursday called on the House to bar female politicians from wearing tight trousers while in the chambers.

Speaking to the legislators, the Leader of Majority asked the lawmakers to show some decorum.

Duale wants to draft a motion banning women from wearing tight pants in Parliament.

"Mr Speaker, in the chamber, there is a semi-order on decorum. There are some women members of Parliament, their dress is not in line with this. Mr Speaker, today we will talk to them but tomorrow we will say, no, you don't wear tight trousers. You know ladies, this House has respect. Let us protect the decorum of the House," noted Duale.

Upon his sentiments, his male counterparts cheered on him.

However, the issue on female politicians dressing did not begin with the National Assembly.

Nyeri's County Assembly was in the limelight after Karatina MCA Watson Mburungo berated his female ward colleagues for allegedly dressing skimpily.

Women in the county were blamed for grooming in mini skirts and dresses that served as distractions to their male counterparts.

"Some of us cannot concentrate as we sit across our female MCAs. Kindly advise us on the mode of dressing. It is difficult for some of us to concentrate when our counterparts are in miniskirts," mentioned Mburungo.

Days later, Nyeri's nominated MCA Beth Nyawira was kicked out of the Assembly for wearing a see-through, tight mini dress with too much cleavage exposed. She later claimed she'd dressed in that manner since it made her feel good about herself.
