MPs Escort Businessman to Sh5 Million Dowry Ceremony

A remote village in Mwingi was treated to a rare ceremony last Saturday after a flamboyant businessman, accompanied by several MPs, arrived in four choppers to pay dowry for his bride.

Businessman Henry Waswa shocked Nzatani village in Kitui County, after landing in style to pay the bride price for Moreen Tabitha which amounted to Sh5 million.

The groom from Bungoma county was accompanied by legislators, led by area MP Charles Nguna (Mwingi West), Babu Owino (Embakasi East), Caleb Amisi (Saboti) and Alfred Keter (Nandi Hills).

He donned West African regalia and flashy ornaments and threw a whole night party for the villagers.

It was good business for all the hotels and guest rooms in the area which were alleged to be fully occupied by his guests.

According to a budget of the event seen by a local daily, Sh5 Million was spent on the event, with a ring the couple exchanged costing a whopping Sh1.6 Million.

However, details as to how much bride price was paid are insufficient.

The lovebirds are alleged to have flown to an unknown destination outside the country for the wedding.

Waswa was in the news last year after he offered a free air ticket to Saleh Wanjala, aka Bungoma's 'James Bond', who hit the headlines after hanging on a helicopter carrying the body of slain businessman Jacob Juma.
