Sing'ore Girls' High School Emerges First Nationally in 2017 KCSE

The 2017 KCSE results were released on Wednesday and the top student was Karimi Naomi Kawira of Pangani Girls'.

Speaking during the event at Nairobi School, Education CS Fred Matiang'i noted that the number of candidates who qualified to join public universities had reduced and only 142A's were registered. 

In recent years, whenever one would mention the top schools nationwide, Alliance Boys and Girls, Maranda High and Kenya High would come to mind but this year has seen little known Sing'ore Girls' High School emerge first nationally.

The school which is located in Elgeyo Marakwet County registered an average of 69.9 points beating Light Academy of Mombasa to second place with 69.1 points.

In third place was Alliance Girls’ High School with 68.6 points and Kenya High came fourth with 68.2 points.

Loreto Girls’ School, Limuru, rounded off the top five with a performance index of 68.1 points.

Kisima Mixed Sec – Nyandarua, Moi Girls High School- Eldoret, Kapsabet Boys- Nandi, Alliance High School- Kiambu and Pangani Girls- Nairobi also made the top 10 in that order.

Only 70,073 candidates obtained grade C+, the intake cut-off for universities, compared to 88,929 last year.

There was also a drop in the number of A- from 4,645 in 2016 as only 2,714 were registered in 2017.

The CS further commended Nairobi's Pangani Girls' for impressive results, pointing out that it was the most improved school.
