Court Releases Evangelist Gilbert Deya on 3 Conditions

The High Court on Thursday released controversial Bishop Gilbert Deya.

The evangelist was ordered to pay a Sh1 Million bond and two sureties of the same amount after being held for four months at Kamiti Maximum Prison.

The Court also directed the Bishop to report to Muthaiga police station on a weekly basis until further notice from the court.

Lastly, the Bishop will have to stay in the country and attend all court sessions since his lawyer will be held responsible if his client absconds court.

The court will continue hearings on the case on January 18, 2018.

The controversial Bishop and Evangelist was extradited to Kenya in August to face charges of child trafficking.

Deya was taken to Milimani law courts for the charges of child trafficking but pleaded not guilty to all the accusations.

The controversial evangelist was deported after losing a long-standing court battle against extradition, in which he argued that it would breach his human rights to send him back to his home country.

Previous attempts to deport the controversial evangelist had been futile as he had been filing appeal after appeal.
