Gideon Moi Given New Position by His Father

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi was on Friday officially inaugurated as Kabarak University Pro-Chancellor by the University Chancellor, retired President Daniel Moi.

During the University's 12th graduation ceremony, the KANU chairman was also conferred with the Award of Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (Honis Causa).

"The Kabarak University Charter gives power to the University to confer an honorary degree upon a person who ascribes to the values of the  University and has rendered distinguished service in the advancement of any branch of learning or service to humanity.

"Hon Gideon has met these qualifications and especially our value of being mindful of the welfare of other people.

"Worthy in recognition of his exemplary contributions to the promotion of peace, reconciliation, and integration and well being of the less fortunate people of Kenya," a statement issued by the University's Vice-Chancellor, Prof Henry Kiptiony Kiplagat, conveyed.

As Pro-Chancellor, Senator Moi will act as a deputy to the chancellor and as practical chairman of the university council whereas the actual chief executive of a university is the Vice-chancellor.

Earlier in the week, the Baringo Senator submitted a list of names of KANU members to be considered for government positions by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The KANU Chairman was said to have handed the names of potential nominees for Cabinet positions in a closely guarded deal with the President.

Mr Moi wanted President Kenyatta to set aside a total of six slots in the Executive; two in the Cabinet and four for principal secretaries in return for KANU’s support for his re-election in the August 8 and October 26 presidential elections.

A source at the Senator’s office confided to Nation that Mr Kiprono Kittony, the chairman of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), and KANU Secretary-General Nick Salat are among those whose names are with the President.
