NASA Forms Raila's Assumption of Office Committee

The National Super Alliance (NASA) on Thursday announced the formation of opposition leader Raila Odinga's assumption of office committee to prepare for his inauguration.

In a statement, NASA explained that the committee would be used to inform its supporters of the progress made in regards to swearing-in the 'Peoples President'.

The coalition, however, failed to issue the names of the committee members, only promising to unveil the formation soon.

"An Assumption of Office Committee, which is already in place and working will be unveiled in the coming days, and that Committee will be keeping you informed," the statement read in part.

"This Sunday, we head to Western Kenya to continue with the people-driven initiative to ensure electoral justice and self-determination in our country," the coalition divulged.

The move to form the committee resembles what is envisaged in the constitution when a President-elect is set to take over the office.

The constitution provides for an assumption of office committee made up of 20 members drawn from different departments that include; the Defense Forces, National Police Service, Office of the Attorney-General and the Judiciary.

The committee is usually charged with the duty to; facilitate the handing over process by the outgoing President to the President-elect, organise for the security of the President-elect, and prepare the programme for the swearing-in ceremony.

The committee also; organises the necessary facilities and personnel for the President-elect, co-ordinates the briefings of the President-elect by relevant public officers and facilitates communication between the outgoing President and the President-elect.
