How Raila's Swearing-in Will Work Against Him - Murkomen

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen on Thursday explained how the swearing-in of National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga as the People's President would be critical to his political life.

Speaking on Thursday after a meeting with United States Ambassador Robert Godec and Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka, the Senate Majority leader noted that the swearing-in would signify an end to the calls for dialogue with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“Once they swear themselves in, it will be the end to calls for dialogue, because then, it will not make sense," he asserted.

The US Ambassador, on his part, maintained that the two rival politicians should engage in talks that would be important in fostering national unity.

"Dialogue is important to this country. The elections are over; they are now behind Kenyans, it is now time to move forward,” Mr Godec conveyed.

The Senate Speaker reiterated the US envoy's calls but stressed that such talks must be within the confines of the Constitution.

“We must respect the independent institutions that are in place and recognize that we have a President who is in office constitutionally,” Mr Lusaka indicated.

During the meeting with the Senate officials, Mr Godec announced that Donald Trump's Government would fundraise to support devolution in the country.

He further challenged the Senate to work closely with the devolved units and promote a seamless relationship.
