First NASA Leader to Speak on President Uhuru Kenyatta's Cabinet Picks

Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok has congratulated President Uhuru Kenyatta for nominating two former Governors to his second term cabinet and to Government.

Former Marsabit Governor Ukur Yattani was nominated for a Cabinet position while former Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua was appointed as the new State House Comptroller.

In a statement released on Friday night, the outgoing Chairman of the Council of Governors lauded the move as a clear indication of goodwill toward devolution.

Governor Nanok also congratulated his challenger in the 2017 gubernatorial race, former Turkana Senator John Munyes on his nomination to the Cabinet.

"Having served as pioneer Governors and Senator, the leaders are champions of devolution and their appointment will deepen the relationship between National and County Governments," the Chairman's statement read in part.

The statement further assured President Kenyatta and his cabinet nominees of support and cooperation from all 47 Governors as the leaders work toward delivering their promises to Kenyans.

NASA principals were yet to voice their opinions on the new-look cabinet, however, it has been the position of NASA affiliated members of parliament that they will not participate in the vetting process of President Kenyatta's second-term cabinet members.

The NASA principals are scheduled to address a series of rallies in the month of January that will kick off on Sunday in Kakamega county.

NASA leader Raila Odinga arrived in Kisumu on Friday as the President announced the appointments and is expected at the Kakamega rally as well as a People's Assembly consultative forum organised on the same day.
