DPP Keriako Tobiko Resigns

The Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr Keriako Tobiko has resigned from his post, President Uhuru Kenyatta has confirmed.

Speaking during a Friday press briefing, the President stated that the immediate former DPP tendered his resignation on the same day after being informed that the President had nominated him for a Cabinet position.

President Kenyatta unexpectedly made the announcement while adding that he had forwarded Mr Tobiko's name and the names of two others to the Speaker of the National Assembly for consideration.

The two others proposed as CS are former Turkana Senator John Munyes and former Marsabit Governor Ukur Yattani.

The President also announced that he has retained six current Cabinet Secretaries including Dr Fred Matiang'i.

Mr Munyes and Mr Yattani are both former politicians from the Opposition coalition but decamped and supported the President's re-election.

The former Senator was allied to the Ford-Kenya party on whose ticket he was elected to the Senate in 2013.

The former Marsabit boss defected from the Orange Democratic Movement party in February 2017 as the campaign season kicked off.

President Kenyatta also reshuffled the National Police Service replacing the Director of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro with deputy Inspector General George Kinoti.

The President assured the public that he would be naming the rest of his second term cabinet in the coming weeks.

"Over the next few weeks, I will be making further announcements to fill cabinet and principals secretary positions as well as our SAGAs (Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies) and Commissions as we continue to populate the government with those who will be charged with the responsibility of executing our agenda in the next five years,"  the President stated.
