Jubilee Suspends Top Officials Over Murang'a Fight

The Jubilee party has suspended two top officials from its Murang'a branch following a fight that broke out in Kiambu on Friday.

Acting chairman Simon Gikuru and Ichagaki ward representative Charles Mwangi who is the party's caucus chairman in the Murang'a County Assembly.

The county's party Secretary-General, Mr Samuel Macharia added that the acting chairman has immediately been replaced by the former chairman of Thika County Council Francis Muheria.

Mr Macharia added that the party will be investigating the matter noting that the two had organised the disrupted meeting in violation of party procedures.

"There seems to have been a well-thought plan in the execution of the war that targeted some members.

"The disciplinary committee will look into this matter carefully and while doing so, Mr Gikuru and Mr Mwangi are not allowed to transact any business on behalf of the party," the Secretary-General reported.

He explained that the fight had ensued during a meeting that was convened to discuss the conduct of one of the party members.

Mr Macharia observed that the chairman was ill-advised as the party rules require either the Secretary-General or the organising secretary to convene such a meeting.

Deliberations of the "illegal meeting" resolved to replace the Murang'a county assembly Majority Leader Erick Kamande and Chief Whip Simon Wamwea with Mr Amos Murigi and Ms Wambui Njoki respectively

"Due process was not adhered to when replacing the majority leader, the chief whip and the deputy chief whip. What they did was an exercise in futility since the party's constitution explains the process to be followed when changing leadership," he stated.

The organising secretary, Mr Peter Mbogo further called on the police to arrest culprits who were shown in video footage beating up the MCAs.

"There is enough evidence in the videos that are circulating showing perpetrators attacking the MCAs; the police must move in swiftly and arrest them," Mr Mbogo stated.
