The Private Feature Nairobi Speaker's House Must Have

Nairobi City County Assembly has tendered the contract for Speaker Beatrice Elachi's five-bedroomed house directing that the mansion must have a private swimming pool.

Through a notice on the Nairobi Assembly website seen by Kenyans.co.ke, tenderers have been directed to submit their tender documents on or before Tuesday, 9th January 2018 at 12.00 noon. 

"The mansion's compound must be at least half-acre plot, at least 200M from the main road, not fronting any main road, the service road must be at least 6 meters wide serviced with street lighting Gate and community perimeter wall with electric fencing.  

"No empty plots adjacent to the property and swimming pool, within the designated UN blue zone and a private gate," the tender notice reads.

UN blue zones include posh residences in Karen, Lang’ata, Kileleshwa, Kilimani, Muthangari, Spring Valley, Muthaiga, Lower Kabete, Kitisuru, Westlands, Highridge, Balozi, Loresho and Windsor.

The notice further states: "The Nairobi City County Assembly Service Board will conduct a due diligence on the clients that will have been provided to determine the tenderers capability/capacity to provide the required services."

Additional specifications that the mansion must have is a reception area with a capacity to hold 50 people during an official function.

Ms Elachi was elected on September 6, 2017, as the speaker of the County Assembly and earns a Sh135,000 monthly house allowance.

Earlier in June, the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) issued a directive where the government will no longer pay rent for county speakers.

SRC stated that county assemblies could buy houses or build new ones where they had land to complete the project.
