Raila Reveals 3 Common Things About Him and Marende

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga on Monday disclosed three common things about him and former National Assembly speaker Kenneth Marende.

Speaking in an interview with journalist Jeff Koinange and Jalang'o on Hot96, Mr Odinga revealed that he and Marende were born on the same date, in the same hospital and ultimately the same maternity ward.

Mr Odinga was born at Bondo Church Missionary Society Hospital in Maseno, Kisumu District, the then Nyanza Province on 7 January 1945.

"Marende and I were born same day, same hospital, same maternity ward, different years," Raila commented.

The only difference in their births is the year, since Marende was born in 1956.

Mr Odinga and Marende have in the past enjoyed a good political relationship.

In 2008, Odinga picked the former Emuhaya MP to vie for Speaker, and through his Orange Democratic Movement party which enjoyed the majority in Parliament, Marende won.

Marende went on to make very crucial rulings which earned him a name among Kenyans from across the political divide as he was referred to as 'the King Solomon' of Kenya due to his wise decisions in the House.

However, Marende was defeated in 2013 when President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Alliance preferred current speaker Justin Muturi over him.

The former Prime Minister divulged this when the breakfast show hosts were celebrating him after he marked his 73rd birthday.

During the interview, Odinga also stated that the country has a great potential and that it is possible to turn it into the Biblical Canaan, which he promised his supporters he will deliver them to.

"My message to him (Uhuru) is that he has a historic opportunity to make amends and create a new Kenya and we are willing to work together in that regard," Mr Odinga added.

According to the coalition leader, the force for change is still powerful and he hopes that 2018 would be the year that Kenya transitions and changes for good.
