Why Sonko's Team Stopped Rescuing

Sonko Rescue Team has stopped offering its services to Kenyans over what they term a restructuring process.

The team's CEO Joab Ogolla stated that they were serving as a reinforcement until after the elections but noted that now, the county is stable to take over the mandate.

"After the holidays we have not resumed collecting garbage since we are restructuring and streamlining our operations and projects," highlighted Mr Ogolla.

He also added that they were vetting the team to identify those who will be absorbed by the county to work in the various advertised positions.

Nairobi County government has therefore asked the sub-county administrators to take charge of the garbage collection task in the city.

Mr Mohamed Dagane, the acting county executive for Water, Environment, Energy and Natural resources, directed the sub-county administrators to be responsible for garbage collection within their areas of jurisdiction.

"The Nairobi City County Government will from today devolve garbage collection to the sub-county level to deal with the menace of illegal dumping and uncollected garbage," Mr Dagane stated on Tuesday.

The move came after an initiative dupped 'Operation Ngarisha Jiji' suffered a setback during the December holidays after the Sonko Rescue Team withdrew its services.

Nairobi County Deputy Governor, Polycarp Igathe, on Tuesday took to social media to appreciate the Sonko Rescue Team for their humanitarian acts in and out of Nairobi.

"The Rescue team was key in the recovery of bodies from the Lake Nakuru helicopter crash, paying bills for numerous election and non-election related cases, providing clean water and emergency response," he acknowledged.
