How Charity Ngilu Forced Postponement of NASA Talks

The National Super Alliance (NASA) postponed a crucial retreat set for this week in order to provide more time for negotiations aimed at bringing Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu's NARC party on board.

According to Nation, NASA Co-Principal Kalonzo Musyoka requested Raila Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula to call off the retreat set for Maanzoni resort in Machakos County to give him more time to negotiate with Ms Ngilu.

He is set to consult and secure Ms Ngilu's consent to have Narc members incorporated in the People's Assembly, the alliance's main tool for steering political change.

Mr Kalonzo, who is keen to consolidate the entire Ukambani behind NASA, seeks to ensure Ngilu fully participates in Opposition activities.

“The retreat was called off on Kalonzo’s request, a very sincere one for that matter so that he could consult and seek Ngilu’s consent to have members of her Narc party participate in the People’s Assemblies.

“It was only proper that Ngilu and her party are fully involved in our activities,” a NASA official in charge of People Assemblies stated.

Nonetheless, top NASA leaders cited the involvement of the alliance MPs in the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) in Naivasha as the reason for the postponement of retreat.

Nasa co-principal Musalia Mudavadi on his part stated that the Opposition coalition would meet to agree on new dates acceptable to all the stakeholders.

“We postponed the retreat. We will meet and reschedule it to a date when everybody is comfortable. The agenda is very broad so we will have to agree on the specific agenda,” he stated.
