NASA Told to Punish MP Who Recognized Uhuru's Presidency

Ford-Kenya Migori County Chairman on Saturday asked the National Super Alliance (NASA) Leadership to take action against Kitutu Chache South Legislator Richard Onyonka for recognizing President Uhuru Kenyatta contrary to the coalition's position.

Mr Samuel Migore requested his party to kick out Onyonka and further noted that the legislator should also be removed from parliamentary committees for endorsing President Kenyatta's presidency.

According to the Migori Ford-Kenya Chairman, Onyonka’s statement on Uhuru's presidency goes against NASA’s stand that the August 8 and October 26 presidential elections were not legitimate.

Mr Migore claimed that if Onyonka is not punished he will not support NASA’s agenda in Parliament.

“It is claimed that Onyonka is deputy party leader in Ford Kenya. We don’t know when he was given that post. We want Onyonka to apologise or lose his positions in NASA and Ford-Kenya," Migore stated.

The vocal MP while Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, however, rubbished the statement stating that he cannot be punished for expressing his opinions.

"There is no legal basis for them to kick me out.

"I am in NASA to stay and I am the Deputy Party Leader of Ford-Kenya and should not be punished for making my own personal views," he stated.

On Tuesday, Onyanka defied calls by the Opposition to recognize Raila Odinga as President as soon as the People's Assembly swears him in.

The Kitutu Chache South MP divulged to Kenyans.co.ke that he only recognized President Kenyatta as the legitimate Head of State as he was sworn in accordance with the Constitution.

Mr Onyonka argued that President Kenya has all the instruments of power which legitimize his position as the leader of the Republic of Kenya.

"Kenya's President is Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta; he was sworn in and given instruments of power, he is the head of Police Force, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), all the finances," he explained.
