Richard Onyonka Declares Support for Uhuru

National Super Alliance (NASA) Member of Parliament (MP) Richard Onyonka on Tuesday defied calls by the Opposition to recognize Raila Odinga as President as soon as the People's Assembly swears him in.

The Kitutu Chache South MP divulged to Kenyans.co.ke that he only recognizes President Uhuru Kenyatta as the legitimate Head of State as he was sworn in accordance with the Constitution.

Mr Onyonka argued that the President has all the instruments of power which legitimize his position as the leader of the Republic of Kenya.

"Kenya's President is Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta; he was sworn in and given instruments of power, he is the head of Police Force, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), all the finances," he explained.

He further brushed off fears of being declared a traitor by NASA politicians including John Mbadi who has openly declared that President Kenyatta is an illegitimate President.

"I don't care whether or not I would be victimized; I am in Ford Kenya, I am sure I have not done anything wrong by recognizing President Uhuru," he explained.

He also vowed to boycott a proposal by Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala that all NASA MPs sign an affidavit to recognize Raila as the President.

"I will not sign that affidavit; I disagree with the decision, Uhuru is the Head of State, what is the problem with whom I swear to swear my allegiance to," he asserted.

He expressed his disappointment on how the election which saw Mr Kenyatta elected was conducted but noted that it is a "story for another day".

His statement comes as NASA finalises plans to swear in Mr Odinga as the People's President on January 30.
