The Goodies Uhuru Brought From South Africa

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday evening arrived back in the country following a 3-day working visit to South Africa during which he met with political and business leaders.

In a meeting with President Kenyatta, Volkswagen South Africa head Thomas Schaefer divulged that the company was looking to double production and introduce a new model in Kenya.

He revealed that VW, which opened shop in Kenya in December 2016, would possibly begin producing a second model in the country, a small hatchback.

They also plan on increasing production of the VW Polo at their Thika Assembly Plant to at least 300 vehicles.

President Kenyatta had earlier met South African President Jacob Zuma in Durban where they discussed a number of issues.

Following the meeting, President Kenyatta explained that they had laid the groundwork and would sign agreements on trade and connectivity that would create jobs for the youth within the next few months.

"Our deliberations today revolved around trade and connectivity and how these would boost industrialisation and also create jobs for millions of youth.

“We have laid the groundwork for my State visit sometime in the first quarter of this year. We look forward to concluding and signing various agreements,” President Kenyatta stated.

President Zuma, on the other hand, explained that matters would be finalized after his next meeting with Kenyatta later this year.

“We will then conclude key issues when President Kenyatta is back later this year,” Zuma stated.
