Ezekiel Mutua Reveals What He Would Not Ask a Fresh Graduate and Kenyans Agree

Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB) Chairman Ezekiel Mutua on Sunday revealed that he would not ask job seekers for clearance certificates who are looking to work in his organization.

Through his social media, Mr Mutua faulted employers who asked fresh graduates to produce clearance certificates from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Certificate of good conduct and the credit bureau.

He explained that the certificates should be limited to senior positions rather than entry-level jobs.

"It's morally wrong to require of a job seeker to have clearance certificates from HELB, KRA, CERTIFICATE OF GOOD CONDUCT, CREDIT BUREAU etc. I have had to get all these certificates myself when I was applying for PS and CEO posts but I do not approve of them being required of job seekers.

"They should be limited to senior posts that are governed by the dictates of Chapter Six on Leadership and Integrity but not of fresh university graduates.

"As CEO I will never ask a fresh graduate to produce such when seeking for a job in my organization. Let's stop oppressing the oppressed!" he conveyed.

He cited that the costs attributed to acquiring the certificates were a deterrent for many job seekers to get employment.

Mr Mutua further quoted that a job seeker would incur a total cost of Sh 4,750 when applying for jobs.

"A Certificate of good conduct Sh 1,050 for not being a criminal,  HELB Clearance Sh 1,000 which is a payment for not having outstanding arrears, EACC clearance Sh 500 for not being corrupt and a Credit Reference Bureau Clearance at Sh 2,200 for not having debts or loans with financial institutions," he added.

Kenyans agreed with Mr Mutua assessment of the job requirements situation. Here are some of the comments:
