Charles Owino Speaks on Kalonzo Being Under House Arrest

Director of Communication Services in the National Police Service, Charles Owino, refuted claims that Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka was under house arrest when his counterpart Raila Odinga was being sworn-in as the People’s President.

Owino categorically refuted allegations and maintained that no other Opposition leader was put under house arrest during the ‘inauguration’ on Tuesday.

“I can confirm that he was not under house arrest,” Owino told journalists outside Musyoka’s Karen residence, where he has joined a team of detectives investigating a grenade incident at the compound.

Owino, however, would not confirm whether his security detail and that of his Opposition colleagues had been withdrawn.

Musyoka had earlier cited security fears for his failure to attend their big day at Uhuru Park.

Senator Moses Wetangula and Musalia Mudavadi did not also attend the event and linked the grenade incident to their strong positions on electoral reforms.

“If the intention is to intimidate us, we are beyond that. Protecting leaders is not a privilege,” Senator Wetangula stated.

He further maintained that the government will be held responsible if anything happens to them.

Wetangula, however, affirmed that the incident was not in any way linked to their failure to attend Tuesday’s swearing-in ceremony.

A bullet discharged from an AK-47 rifle and a grenade safety pin were recovered in Musyoka’s compound.
