Former Gov Ranguma Announces Plan to be Sworn - in After Losing Petition

Former Kisumu county governor Jack Ranguma on Friday declared his intention to swear himself in as the Kisumu Governor despite losing to Prof. Anyang' Nyong'o.

Speaking during the funeral service of Silas Owiti, the founder of Voice of Salvation and Healing Church, Ranguma divulged that he won the election and therefore should be the governor.

“Raila has set the precedent, his vote was stolen and he is now the people’s president. Would it be wrong if I followed cue and also claimed what’s mine?” Ranguma noted.

Ranguma added that; "I will therefore follow Raila's example."

He lost his petition against the election of Governor Nyong'o and was ordered to pay Sh5 million by the high court.

Ranguma, however took the matter to the Court of Appeal arguing that the High Court judge errored in his judgement.

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga was on January 30 sworn - in as the People's President.

This followed his refusal to accept the Supreme Court ruling which upheld the win of President Uhuru Kenyatta on the October 26 repeat poll.

According to Odinga, the only way to have electoral reforms in the country that would end electoral injustices was by having him sworn - in as the 'legitimate' winner of the August 8 general elections.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) however refuted claims that Odinga was the 'lawful' winner of those elections.
