Babu Owino Back to School For New Course

  • Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino has taken to social media to announce his return to class to 'learn more about revolutionary tactics'.

The controversial politician and former student leader captioned the image: "When men were men women liked it that way.Back to class to learn more about revolutionary tactics."

He was recently arrested soon before the government began a crackdown on National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders following the swearing-in of Raila Odinga as the 'People's President'.

Babu Owino was a long-serving Chairman of the Students Organization of Nairobi University (SONU) and has been described in the past as a 'Career student'.

After he was elected, he promised to push for university students to get higher loan limits from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).

"This year, as a youthful legislator, I will be sponsoring two Bills in Parliament. One will be to push for an increment in the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) to all universities.

"The other bill will be on the empowerment of the youth and women in accessing government credits through a subsidized fee and without much restrictions," he wrote on January 4.

When Babu was arrested for allegedly assaulting a security guard in Westlands, university students launched sreet protests as they demanded his release as well as the release of  HELB funds.

A large group of students from Parklands Campus came out and barricaded roads leading to the CB as Babu was being held in Parklands.

"We only have two ultimatums for us to get off the streets. We demand the release of our comrade Babu Owino and release of our money so that we can proceed with learning," they declared.
