NASA MPs Make Urgent Request to Trump's Administration

National Super Alliance (NASA) legislators on Monday stated that they would petition Donald Trump's administration to recall US ambassador Robert Godec.

Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi disclosed that the opposition Members of Parliament were in the process of preparing a  draft petition to have Mr Godec replaced over what they termed as bias in executing his duties.

“More like-minded MPs and I will petition the US government using the relevant and official channels to raise our concerns over this grave matter.

“Mr Godec’s continued stay in the country is injurious to the long-term relationship between the people of Kenya and the US," he stated.

Mr Wandayi who is the secretary for political affairs of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) added that the petition would be presented to the relevant committee of the US Senate for action.

He conveyed that a majority of Kenyans had no confidence in Mr Godec in light of his role in Raila Odinga's swearing-in.

“We are aware that he seems to have a profound vendetta against Nasa leader Raila Odinga after the last general election. This was confirmed on January 30, when Mr Godec convinced the other Nasa principals to isolate Mr Odinga as he took “oath” as the people’s president.

“He has not been objective as required in representing Kenya’s views to his country. His views have been highly skewed and partisan. He is doing diplomacy for a few,” the opposition MP stated.

The ODM MP further accused the US ambassador of misinforming Trump's administration leading to the Country's criticism of Raila's oath-taking as the people's president.

"The feeling we have is that the administration has not been given the true account of the situation in Kenya right during the campaign period to elections and beyond. The statements they are issuing could be based on misinformation,” he maintained.

Earlier on Thursday, the United States Department in a statement explained that it was gravely concerned by Odinga's swearing-in adding that it only recognized President Uhuru Kenyatta as the legitimate Head of State.

"Uhuru Kenyatta was elected as President of the Republic of Kenya on October 26, 2017, in a poll that was upheld by Kenya's Supreme Court," State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert stated.
