Wanjigi, Orengo, Ndii Present Themselves to Police

Businessman Jimi Wanjigi, Strategist David Ndii, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Siaya Senator James Orengo are among opposition leaders who arrived at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters on Thursday morning.

The leaders were there to serve DCI Chief George Kinoti with a court order that barred police from arresting 12 NASA leaders.

A judge had on Wednesday granted the leaders Sh100,00 anticipatory bail and asked them to present themselves at DCI Headquarters at 11 am today.

After the order was issued, the police issued a statement maintaining that the 12 leaders were not currently being sought in connection with any crimes.

"The National Police Service wishes to state that neither Hassan Joho, Jimmy Wanjigi, David Ndii nor the 9 others who have sought anticipatory bail are being sought as of now in connection with commision of any crimes," they tweeted.

The leaders are also among key opposition figures whose passports have been suspended in the wake of a recent crackdown on the opposition by the State.

Letters sent to them on Tuesday informed the leaders to hand over the travel documents within 14 days.

If they do not surrender their passports within the given perion, the documents will become null and void.

NASA Chief Strategist David Ndii stated that there was no legal basis for the suspension, and further noted that all members of the coalition's technical team had been targeted as well.

He explained that the move was insignificant as they were not planning on travelling because they were working on the People's Convention.
