EXCLUSIVE: Why Swaleh Mdoe Has Resulted to Selling His Kidney

Citizen TV senior anchor, Swaleh Mdoe, has revealed that he is selling on one of his kidneys.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the celebrated anchor stated he had resulted to selling the kidney due to financial problems.

Mdoe divulged that he is servicing loans from different financial institutions hence could not get additional money from the same.

The famed 'tafakari ya babu' Swahili anchor noted: "I can not get money from any other avenues since I have loans from banks and SACCOs that I am currently servicing."

The senior anchor added that he is selling the organs for only Sh2.5 Million.

Mdoe put out a story on a local daily announcing his intention to sell the kidney to sort some pressing problems. 

"I have decided to sell one of my kidneys after consulting my doctor on the matter," he told.

"I have received calls from all sorts of people. But I have two people whom I will be having further negotiations with on the same," he explained to Kenyans.co.ke.

"Let people sell their body organs if they need to, as long as it is voluntarily done so," Mdoe expressed when asked what he thinks is the precedent he has set being a role model to many people.

He further added that it is better to sell one's body part for money as opposed to committing a crime to acquire finances.

Mdoe is one of the oldest and respected TV anchors in the country.

In 2017, President Uhuru Kenyatta assent a bill passed by parliament giving citizens free will to sell their body organs.

The law, which builds on the Human Tissue Act of 1966 (reviewed in 2012), allows a person who is competent to make a will or oral statement before witnesses to donate their body or specific organs to be used before or after their death either to save another person’s life or in medical institutions for learning.
