CS Farida Karoney Tells off Journalists Covering her Land Dispute Case

Lands Cabinet Secretary, Farida Karoney, on Monday cleared the air on the land dispute that she was embroiled in, further advising journalists on what to focus on while covering the dispute.

Speaking at Ardhi House while taking over from former CS Jacob Kaimenyi, she asked journalists interested in her land case to do more research on the civil cases she had filed at the court proving that the disputed property was registered in her name.

She made this remarks while refuting the allegations that there was a conflict of interest in the 16-acre land tussle pitting her against her neighbors in Nandi County.

“There is no conflict at all. I legally acquired that land in November last year and I don’t know where it’s coming from now.

"You can go to the Nandi land registry and check,” she asserted, adding that the property is fully registered in her name.

The new Lands CS was put on the spot by a family of former MCA, Amos Korir, who claimed ownership of the same property registered under her name.

"Our family has lived here for so many years without dispute, Karoney may have been duped into buying the land without getting proper facts," he complained.

As she was taking over from Kaimenyi, Karoney promised to work harmoniously with the National Land Commission (NLC).

“If I step on the toes of NLC, I don’t expect you to blow it out of proportion. Even with your own wife, brother or sister, there is bound to be conflicts. It’s normal and we’re not expecting it will be a bed of roses all through,” Karoney noted.

The veteran journalist also expressed her concern that important activities in the Ministry were being sabotaged and slowed by court cases.
