President Uhuru Kenyatta's CSs Take Oath at State House

President Uhuru Kenyatta's nine cabinet nominees were on Friday gathered at State House, Nairobi, for their oath-taking ceremony.

Former Chair of the Public Service Commission (PSC) Margaret Kobia was first to take the oath followed by former Turkana Senator John Munyes.

The Constitution stipulates that the cabinet nominees are required to take the oath before the President and in accordance with the pre-written affirmation on the Third Schedule of the Laws of Kenya.

The nine nominees were approved by Parliament on Wednesday during a session where Members of Parliament (MPs) affiliated to the National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition walked out.

The nine new entrants to the Executive arm of Government are: Margaret Kobia (Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs), John Munyes (Petroleum and Mining), Monica Juma (Foreign Affairs and International Trade), Farida Karoney (Lands, Housing and Urban Development) and Peter Munya (East African Community and Northern Corridor Development), Keriako Tobiko (Environment and Forestry), Simon Chelugui (Water and Sanitation), Ukur Yattani (Labour and Social Protection) and Rashid Achesa (Sports and Heritage).

Each of the candidates has elicited reactions from members of the public and politicians alike calling even as details of their lives have been divulged.

Former Turkana Senator John Munyes shocked Kenyans when he declared that his net worth stood at Sh50 Million.

The value would later diminish in comparison to Mr Chelugui's net worth that a Parliament report revealed was Sh796 Million.

Former Meru Governor Peter Munya had a tough time explaining to the Appointments Committee an edict he issued during his tenure as Council of Governor (CoG) Chair.

"You told governors not to appear before the public accounts committee. What makes us sure that you won't take the same disease to the cabinet and ask the CSs not to appear before the various house committees?" National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale posed.

In response, Munya stated: "I want to assure members that I will appear before the house whenever called. I won't incite anybody not to appear."
