Jubilee Names Borabu MP Ben Momanyi in List of PSC Nominees

National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale named Wiper legislator Ben Momanyi, and Jubilee Party members Naomi Shaaban, Adan Keynan, Aaron Cheruiyot and Beth Mugo as nominees to the powerful Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).

Speaker Justin Muturi accepted the nomination of Momanyi and directed the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to submit the names of two nominees to the commisson.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka had written to the Speaker of the House last week fronting Momanyi as the party's nominee to PSC, sparking outrage from other opposition MPs.

Lawmakers from ODM, ANC and Ford-K accused Wiper and its leaders of disregarding the agreed distribution of the slots among the National Super Alliance (NASA) affiliate parties.

15 of the lawmakers held a press conference and threatened to 'redefine' their relationship with Wiper in Parliament.

On Monday, however, Minority Leader John Mbadi submitted the opposition's list of nominees, which had Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr., Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa and Homa Bay Women Representative Gladys Wanga.

He explained that Mutula had agreed to a swap with Vihiga Senator George Khaniri, who would now be appointed Minority Whip in the Senate.

“As it is, the Speaker should treat my letter as having settled the matter. My letter now overrides any communication,” stated Mbadi.

On the same day, however, Duale hinted that Wiper's push to have Momanyi on the list was supported by the ruling party.

“Wiper wrote a letter and attached serious documents,” he noted.

Wiper Deputy Party leader Farah Maalim has previously stated that the opposition coalition was quickly disintegrating.
