Twists in DP William Ruto's Defamation Case Against Boniface Mwangi

Deputy President William Ruto's defamation case against activist Boniface Mwangi has witnessed various twists causing an unending settlement on the day of its hearing.

Although the matter came before High Court Deputy Registrar Lydia Mbacho on Tuesday, it emerged that neither of the two had complied with a number of directives.

The DP sued the activist in 2016 after he suggested through his Twitter account that Ruto had a hand in the mysterious killings of the late businessman Jacob Juma.

In a series of tweets, the former Starehe Member of Parliament aspirant accused DP Ruto of a range of criminal misconduct, including corruption and land theft.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Mr Mwangi's lawyer Gitobu Imanyara revealed that his client had already filed a response to the case against him in November 2017.

However, in their response, Imanyara revealed to Kenyans.co.ke that they also filed a case against Uhuru's deputy countering his suit.

Mwangi was responding to questions that were to enable the High Court to set a hearing date.

Mr Imanyara also disclosed that following the suit, Mwangi sought to be availed for copies of DP Ruto's wealth declaration forms from the National Assembly but the Clerk refused to release them.

The controversial activist is, therefore, waiting for the release of those forms since they need them to make their case on Mwangi's claims that linked the DP to corruption and land theft.

The two parties are expected to go back to court on April 23 to ascertain their compliance with the orders given.
