Uhuru Warns Senior Government Officials Against Misuse of Funds

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday issued a stern warning to the Vice Chancellors representing all public universities within the country.

The President cautioned the VCs alongside other accounting officers in government offices against wasting public funds under his administration.

The accounting officers include Principal Secretaries that head state departments; CEOs, Managing Directors, and Directors-General of state-owned enterprises (parastatals); and Vice Chancellors of public universities.

“We want to categorically and clearly state that funny practices that lead to loss or wastage of public resources will not be allowed.

“We will not entertain anybody messing up with government resources,” the President told the officers at a meeting in State House.

Echoing the earlier warning he had issued to Cabinet Secretaries, the President noted that any accounting officer who deemed their burden too heavy was free to depart from the government.

Prudent use of public funds is a key plank in delivering the Big Four plan that targets providing more roofs over the heads of Kenyans, ensuring more jobs by enhanced manufacturing, making sure hunger and starvation are stories confined to history, and ensuring everyone has access to healthcare.

During the inauguration of the CSs, the President had pointed out that the Cabinet members should help him meet the four point-agenda.

"This is not a platform of self-actualization and pandering to ego. It is a rare opportunity. It is about selflessness. We should not leave any Kenyan behind. Kenyans expect an open, transparent and accountable government.

"Our nation stands ready for prosperity. We are 45-million strong. These are people who have trusted you and me to take Kenya towards the destiny she deserves," he stated.
