Uhuru Advises New Cabinet Secretaries When to Quit Office

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday advised the newly appointed Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) when to quit office as the heads of the respective Government ministries.

Speaking at State House shortly after the swearing-in of the nine CSs, he urged them to embark on serious business and if they feel the work is tedious, they can quit and pave way for others to serve in their positions.

“This is a good point for me to say that if at any time it is now business unusual not as usual…Should you at any time feel the weight is too much, just say so, there are other Kenyans ready for the job.

"Sijui kama tunakubaliana wenzangu. Nasema kwa heshima ili tuheshimiane (I don't know if we agree. I am saying this so we can respect each other)," he stated.

While welcoming them to Government, he also warned the new ministers against misusing their positions by boosting their ego and using it as a platform for self-actualization.

"This is not a platform of self-actualization and pandering to ego, It is a rare opportunity. It is about selflessness. We should not leave any Kenyan behind. Kenyans expect an open, transparent and accountable government," he asserted.

He reiterated that the Cabinet should help him meet the four point-agenda which is food security, affordable housing, manufacturing and affordable healthcare.

"I look forward to selflessness, integrity, dedication and unmatched excellence to bring our Big Four agenda to the fore.

"Our nation stands ready for prosperity. We are 45-million strong. These are people who have trusted you and me to take Kenya towards the destiny she deserves," he stated.

Margaret Kobia took her oath of office as Public Service and Youth CS alongside John Munyes (Mining), Farida Karoney (Lands), Peter Munya (East African Community) and Monica Juma (Foreign Affairs).
