Eugene Wamalwa Pledges to Ensure Counties Receive Funds on Time

Devolution Cabinet Secretary on Wednesday pledged to help Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and other county heads by ensuring funds are disbursed on time.

Speaking at Wayu and Garsen in Tana River County, Wamalwa acknowledged that delay in the funds was crippling devolution in most parts of the country.

“Yesterday we had a meeting with members of the Senate. This is one of the key issues we were looking at.

"When I get to Nairobi we will sit down with the Treasury CS and ensure disbursement of funds to county governments is done on time,” he promised.

Governor Joho and his counterpart Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi have been vocal on how the delay in funds has hindered development projects in their respective counties.

During his tour of the Tana River county, The Devolution CS urged governors to cooperate with the national government to implement projects.

Wamalwa added that he would work closely with county governments to propel a seamless provision of services for the people.

“We are ready to work with counties to serve the people effectively,” he conveyed.

He was accompanied by Chief Administrative Secretary Hussein Dado and Devolution Principal Secretary Micah Powon to distribute relief food in the drought-stricken region.

During his visit, he promised to provide water for the residents by purchasing a water bowser disclosing that the government had plans to construct more than 60 water pans in various parts of the country.

“Some of the relief food supplied to Kilifi, Lunga Lunga and Kinango, among other places, is produced at Galana Kulalu. The region has the potential to feed the nation. We want to make it Kenya’s breadbasket,” he explained.
