Court Nullifies Election of Turkana Woman Representative Joyce Emanikor

High Court Judge Daniel Ogolla was under siege on Friday after he nullified the election of Turkana Woman Representative Joyce Emanikor.

There was high tension in Lodwar as supporters of the former lawmaker attempted to storm the court and attack the Judge.

Justice Ogolla sought the protection of police officers as he was forced to stay in the courtroom in order to avoid being attacked by the protestors.

A contigent of security officers were forced to intervene and evacuate the judge from the angry crowd.

While issuing the verdict, the judge noted that the election was marred by massive irregularities.

The petitioner, Pauline Lokuruka who vied on an ODM ticket challenged the election of the Jubilee MP who had been declared the winner by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The former Jubilee MP garnered 53,731 votes ahead of Lokuruka who had 49,433 votes.

It is one of the 12 petitions filed in the county alongside that of governor Josphat nanok which was quashed on Tuesday.

Meanwhile,Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino also lost the disputed Embakasi East Parliamentary Election following a High Court decision.

However, it was a reprieve for Lamu Governor Fahim Twaha, Embakasi South MP Julius Mawathe, Kibwezi East MP Jessica Mbalu and Likoni MP Mishi Mboko as their elections were upheld.
